Instructor: Karen Shanely Karen Schanely obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in piano pedagogy from Cedarville University in May, 2007 and a Master of Music in Flute Performance from Wright State University in June, 2009. She has studied privately with Ralph Burkhardt, Melanie Sinclair, Connie Anderson, Lori Akins, Evelien Woolard, and Dr. Christopher Chaffee. Through out her studies, she enjoyed performing with various flute choirs, wind ensembles, orchestras, and chamber groups. She takes every opportunity to play with orchestras and chamber ensembles and to give recitals. Because she always knew that teaching music to others was her passion, she did not just focus on performance but also pedagogy. Karen offers lessons in classical flute, piccolo, and piano through her private studio and, as an adjunct instructor, also teaches private lessons and various courses at Indiana University East in Richmond, Indiana. As a teaching assistant for the course Introduction to Humanities at Cedarville University, Karen works with many students, whether in person or in an online classroom, to learn and appreciate all of the arts. She also enjoys leading music at her home church and performing for various events in the Dayton area with Silver Strings, a harp and flute duo. Karen enjoys working with students of all ages and levels of skill and appears as a clinician wit schools and camps. Her goal is to instill a love for music in each student that will last a lifetime, whether he/she goes on to work in the music field or just appreciate and understand music. |
